FRUIT BODY: 8 - 15mm wide (per fruit body), up to 7mm high.  Starting off as tangerine coloured sub-spherical protrusion this neat little fungus transforms into an open cup with a dark brown slightly uneven velvety outer surface and an orange-to whitish smooth inner surface. The lid which covers the eggs (peridioles) within the cup is transient and the eggs inside are pearly -white and are flattened and angularly rounded. Each individual egg is attached to the cap with a sticky cord (a funiculus) which acts as an attaching mechanism when the egg is sprung from the cup by an external force such as a rain drop. GILLS/PORES: N/A. FLESH: Tough. SPORES: Hyaline, smooth and elliptical. HABITAT: A saprophyte on organic debris such as woodchip and rotting twigs and branches. Also can be found on various dung. SEASON: Infrequent.  Spring to autumn. EDIBILITY: Inedible.
